Tempting Poolside Firepit
When Laurie and Kevin moved into their Wilmington home in 2014, the backyard was “a wreck”. They worked for several years on improving the landscape. Then in 2019 they decided they wanted to add a pool and entertainment area. (Photos by Renee Sauer)
They hired Scott Hinson of Low Country Landscaping who designed the project and guided them through the HOA review process. His team installed this exquisite travertine pool deck and patio featuring a raised firepit and stone seating wall.
Laurie visited Stone Garden and fell in love with a piece of TN Sandstone that Jon Mayer, in our fabrication shop, radius cut into 4 flowing pieces. He then chiseled both interior and exterior edges.
Next Laurie and Kevin selected a natural sandstone veneer to match the firepit cap. The stone is fondly known as Crab Orchard (for the town where it originates) or Crab Apple (for the groves of apples the town was named for).
The stonework by Low Country Landscaping is superb, with crisp, clean joints. Scott completed the project in March of 2020. Laurie and Kevin enjoyed the pool this summer and have lit up the firepit this fall.
Last month the homeowners hired Jason of The Lawn Barber to clean and seal their pool deck. Courtney Mussina introduced him to our new line of SRW products. Laurie chose the SHGX Stone Sealer with high gloss finish to bring out the rich colors of the Roman Blend travertine. The result speaks for itself.
